Simon Bland

Introduction

Simon Bland is CEO of the Global Institute for Disease Elimination (GLIDE), a new global health institute rooted in Abu Dhabi focused on accelerating the elimination of malaria, polio, lymphatic filariasis and onchocerciasis. He has over 40 years of experience in international development spanning global health, development economics, and marine and natural resource management. Prior to joining GLIDE, Simon was the Director of the UNAIDS New York Office, where he played a key role in supporting negotiations that led to the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals, helping to make the case for a more integrated HIV/AIDS response. Simon is currently the vice-chair of the Board of the RBM Partnership to End Malaria and is a trustee of Malaria No More (UK).
